About us
ODI (www.odi.org.uk) aims to inspire and inform policy and practice to reduce poverty by locking together high-quality applied research and practical policy advice.
Our Growth, Poverty and Inequality Programme is seeking a Research Fellow with world-class knowledge to support a portfolio of research, policy advice and public affairs work. The successful candidate will join an established team of independent researchers working on a wide range of research areas relating to growth, poverty and inequality.
Recent programme highlights include:
  • an extensive programme of research and policy engagement on the post-2015 global development agenda
  • new work on poverty measurement and inequality as part of the ‘Development Progress’ project
  • policy advice on employment-creating economic growth and development of a new diagnostic tool for policy-makers.
As part of a dynamic team you will be responsible for managing a programme of work on improving the collection and use of data to support the eradication of extreme poverty. The post-2015 agenda and the call for a ‘data revolution’ to support poverty eradication offer an exciting opportunity to develop new methods and partnerships in this area.
Other key responsibilities include:
  • research and policy advisory work: conducting high-quality applied research
  • fundraising: attracting funds through bids and marketing, including the development of a substantial personal research portfolio
  • public affairs: disseminating and promoting the programme’s work and ideas.
The successful candidate will have:
  • a degree and post-graduate qualification in economics
  • extensive knowledge of key issues and organisations in international development
  • excellent quantitative skills, including familiarity with different types of datasets and methodologies
  • experience and interest in the micro analysis of poverty and/or inequality
  • fluency in English, and preferably a good command of at least one other language
  • experience in policy-orientated research, demonstrated by a track record of publications and reports
  • extensive developing-country experience
  • demonstrated ability to win work and attract funds.
Closing date: 15 September 2013.
