Marketing and Communications Manager

At Fairtrade America you will work on behalf of one of the most cutting-edge models for change. Fairtrade America is the independent, non-profit organization behind the FAIRTRADE Mark, a product label assuring consumers that their purchase helps disadvantaged farmers and workers in developing countries secure a better deal. We seek a talented and committed marketing professional with strong digital media and cause-related expertise, to join our team on a half-time basis; full time beginning January 2015. The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for creating and implementing Fairtrade America's marketing and communications plan. The Manager will oversee the creation of all content for digital and print, and oversee communications and marketing projects including retail marketing campaigns, events, website, publications including the quarterly newsletter, press releases and annual report.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Work with colleagues in communications and business development teams to develop and deliver consumer promotional activity that will meet commercial partner objectives in building sales of Fairtrade products and engagement with the Fairtrade Mark. This includes project management of promotional materials and marketing campaigns
  • Responsible for the creation of all key messaging and communications content; create and execute a yearly promotional Content Calendar
  • Oversee all aspects organization's digital strategy, including planning and management, writing, design and monitoring of website, blog, social media channels, e-newsletters, etc.
  • Work with commercial partners to ensure their shopper and consumer engagement objectives are being adequately addressed in both our account specific and generic marketing campaigns
  • Work with commercial partners in driving understanding of Fairtrade at appropriate organizational levels and in maximizing the quantity and quality of their Fairtrade-related consumer interactions
  • Represent Fairtrade America and serve as spokesperson at communications events, PR and media-related activities
  • Engage with community groups and others in the broader fair trade movement to build awareness
  • Manage volunteer interns
  • Carry out additional assignments as required by the Director of Marketing and Communications
  • Minimum travel required
Qualifications (Required):
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years' marketing and communications experience, with cause marketing background a plus
  • Proven experience managing successful promotions and events
  • Demonstrated experience managing and executing social media strategy that builds an engaged and expanding audience
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating internal and external partners and stakeholders in successful delivery of projects or promotions
  • Demonstrated project management skills with an emphasis on building good relationships internally and externally
  • Proven experience producing excellent promotional materials
  • Direct budgetary management experience
  • Excellent writing, presentation and communication skills
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Understanding and appreciation of the role of public outreach and education in Fairtrade America
  • Strong computer skills, including excellent internet capabilities. Knowledge of design software (Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • An excellent and meticulous organizer
  • Flexible, creative team player willing to willing to step into whatever task is required to get the job done
  • Knowledge and commitment to Fairtrade and development issues desired
  • The Marketing and Social Media Manager will report to the Director of Marketing and Communications of Fairtrade America.
