Youth Programs Coordinator

First Parish in Lexington, a Unitarian Universalist congregation, seeks a Youth Programs Coordinator (YPC) to begin immediately for 18 hours per week from September 2014 through June, 2015.
The YPC is responsible for programming for 6-12th graders in two separate youth groups (6-8 graders in Junior Youth Group and 9th - 12th graders in Senior High Youth Group). Senior High Youth Group meets every Sunday evening from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Currently, the Junior Youth Group meets once a month on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon for offsite events such as indoor rock climbing or a social action project. The YPC is also responsible for occasional Sunday morning programming and weekend retreats.
The YPC is supervised by the Interim Director of Lifespan Religious Education (IDLRE).
The YPC recruits and trains volunteer youth advisors, attends and helps lead the weekly and monthly youth group sessions, coordinates the fall kick-off retreats, helps facilitate youth group parent meetings (2 -3 times/year), helps facilitate the Coming of Age (COA) program every other year and Our Whole Lives (OWL) for 8th graders each year in coordination with Follen Church, supervises the planning of the annual youth worship service, helps motivate youth/adults to participate in congregational activities, helps coordinate a bi-annual service trip for the Senior High Youth Group, and writes newsletter articles to keep the congregation abreast of the activities of the youth.
The successful YPC candidate will have the following qualifications:
  • Ability to coordinate, support and strengthen team of adult volunteer advisors
  • Ability to facilitate youth group activities with excellent team building skills
  • Experience working with youth (11-18 years), possessing an understanding of human development and adolescent behavior
  • Previous experience (preferred) or working familiarity with the values, principles, and practices of Unitarian Universalism
  • Excellent communication in the English language and in written communications, including the use social media
  • Excellent and proven organizational and time management skills

As stated above, this is an hourly position for 18 hours/week from September, 2014, through June, 2015. The hourly salary range, depending on experience, is $18 - $20/hour.
