Biodiversity Project Coordinator (Economist)

Description 

The tendered module "Biodiversity-based products (BBPs) as funding source for the improvement of livelihood and protection of biodiversity" is part of a program to "protect biodiversity in the ASEAN Member States." The ASEAN CENTRE for BIODIVERSITY (Program partner) shall be enabled to support the ASEAN MEMBER STATES (AMS) in the economic valorisation and develop itself into a regional competence centre in this sector. Target group is the local population in AMS, whose livelihoods depend on local ecosystems and their products.
The Project will consist of four fields of action (FoA), which will be substantiated through a preceding baseline study.
FoA 1: Implementation of a strategy to promote biodiversity-based products, value chains, and policies for ASEAN member states
FoA 2: Development of a thematic information platform
FoA 3: Planning and implementation of pilot measures on biodiversity-based products value chains for the improvement of living conditions and the protection of biodiversity in buffer zones
FoA 4: Knowledge management and training for target groups
The project will identify value chains and implement pilot measures for their promotion, mainly in the buffer zones of selected ASEAN Heritage Parks (AHPs) in Cambodia, Lao, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV-countries). Target groups shall be trained accordingly.

Qualifications Required Only the experts meeting the set criteria will be shortlisted and contacted.
  • University degree in Economics or equivalent
  • Professional experience in
    • establishing value chains in the field of pure natural products
    • experience in sustainable use of biodiversity
    • economic assessments of biodiversity and ecosystem services
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, respond and interact with public and private service providers and interest groups.
  • Perfect command of English, spoken and written; German would be an asset.
Professional Experience Required
  • 10 years’ experience in the Technical Cooperation in the field of economic approaches for the protection of biodiversity; 
  • knowledge and experience with eco-labelling and certification; 
  • experience in managing PPPs would be an advantage
  • good regional knowledge.
Duration: 48 months
