The Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) is an independent public health foundation based in Geneva, Switzerland, established with the support of UNITAID. The mission of the MPP is to bring down the prices of HIV medicines and technologies and facilitate development of better-adapted HIV medicines and technologies, such as fixed-dose combinations and special formulations for children, by creating a pool of relevant patents for sub-licensing and product development.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:
The Strategy and Operations Manager will manage the day-to-day operations of the organisation, including ensuring execution of the MPP’s strategy, under the supervision of the Executive Director.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting the Executive Director in the overall development, planning and implementation of the MPP’s public health mission and strategy;
- Leading the operational planning of the organisation including the preparation of management meetings, internal monitoring reports, and weekly status reports, as well as ensuring the effective application of the Foundation’s SOPs, IT strategy and internal KPI report working system in close collaboration with the Executive Director and Management Team;
- Leading the management of donor relations, managing existing grants and preparing reports, under the supervision of the Executive Director and in coordination with the Finance and Resources Manager;
- Leading the MPP’s annual planning process and ensure that it remains aligned to donor timelines and expectations;
- Supporting the Executive Director and General Counsel in liaising with the MPP’s Governance Board and Expert Advisory Group;
- Organising the agenda, producing the minutes, and monitoring implementation of the decisions of the Governance Board;
- Ensuring the MPP meets the requirements of its transparency policy;
- Directing and supervising the work of the Operations Officer;
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Knowledge/Qualifications;
The Strategy and Operations Manager should have:
- Strategy development skills;
- Sound planning and coordination skills;
- Excellent professional writing skills;
- People management and leadership skills;
- Capacity to have long term vision of the goals and objectives;
- Excellent attention to detail.
Personal Qualities:
- Organised, autonomous and able to work with short timelines and new operational areas;
- Collaborative and supportive approach to teamwork;
- Sensitivity to different cultures and work styles;
- Demonstrable personal commitment to the public health goals of the MPP.
Education and special training:
Advanced university degree in business administration or related.
Experience (length and nature):
Demonstrated experience working in strategic planning and program management in the public or private sector. Experience and knowledge in public health with issues related to access to medicines and intellectual property would be desirable.
Use of Languages:
Native-level fluency in written and spoken English is essential. Oral and written proficiency in a second language is an advantage.
