Finance Analyst

Responsibilities
1. Financial Planning and Analysis
- Develop and monitor budgets and forecasts. With Director of Finance, lead Teach For China's annual budgeting process, communicate with budget owners to ensure a fully understanding of Teach for China's activities and help budget owners manage out an efficient and effective budget.
- Update Budget vs actual report on quarterly basis, give overview assessment on budget status and follow the variance analysis by identify the main causes for over/under spending.
- Work out appropriate corrective action plan and discuss with budget owner to help them monitor and improve budget control.
- Follow up with different scenario analysis which incur during Teach For China's program stage for management decision making.
- Develop and improve the finance analysis model for the short-, medium-, and long-term financial plans and projections for the organization and individual departments or programs
- Managing and updating cash flow report on weekly basis.
- Present management reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate regular monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes, communicating major changes as required
2. External donor report
- Work with fundraising team, support on delivering financial information and reports to donors on timely manner as per requirement stated in donor agreement.
- Maintain the relevant financial information and report to each donor, and together with the sufficient supporting documents and worksheets to support the report.
- Involve in reviewing donor agreement, from finance point of view to review if the required financial information can be easily tracked under current chart of account structure in accounting system, and from cash flow point of view, give suggestions on the contribution disbursement schedule.
Maintain clear and consistent lines of communication with the Development Team, including:
  • Weekly working with development team to track and process inbound revenue.
  • Monthly reconcile between finance record and donation record generate from development team's system
  • Creating financial reports for donors
  • Working with Development team to structure fundraising goals and timelines based on organizational cash flow needs
3. Compliance work
- Support tax and regulatory reporting in US, Mainland China and HK.
- Research the relevant finance/tax regulatory in each registered region.
- Coordinate with auditors and authorities if needed
4. Other financial management work
- Specific financial accounting work.
- Ensure adherence of fiscal policies and procedures
- Any other ad hoc work assigned
Qualifications
  • At least 3 plus years in a finance role, with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Track record of being proactive and taking initiative
  • Creative and solution-oriented mindset
  • Strong work ethic and detail oriented
  • Operations experience with strong teamwork and cross-cultural skills
  • Excellent communication skills, especially in discussing financial topics internally with a variety of staff and externally with key stakeholders
  • Strong analytical skills. High level proficiency in Excel
  • Minimum of a BA/BS; Advanced degree such as MBA preferred
  • Potentially has experience and education in accounting
  • Strong desire to learn and/or familiarity and experience with non-profits and non-profit accounting/finance (non-profit issues, experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting; knowledge of grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of international and domestic corporate, individual, and foundation grants)
  • Fluency in Chinese and English
  • Passion for Teach For China's mission and education
