The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).
The Accounts Assistant/Officer is primarily responsible for:
- accounts payable;
- accounts receivable;
- other accounting duties.
Specific responsibilities include:
- the controlling and booking of vendor invoices from different countries/in different currencies;
- the controlling and booking of travel expenses;
- bookings on debtors accounts, bank accounts and other General Ledger accounts;
- reconciliation of accounts;
- backup for payroll;
- assisting as required in period-close activities; and
- carrying out other tasks and reporting activities upon request.
The postholder will report directly to the appropriate Supervising Accounts Officer and will work closely with the Accounting, Purchasing and Scientific groups.
Qualifications and Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a solid accounting background and fluency in English, and good working knowledge of the German language. Other European languages such as French are desirable. Experience with accounting packages, preferably the SAP FI module, will be an advantage. Experience in payroll is an advantage. A good working knowledge of the usual office software packages (Excel, Word) is desirable. The postholder should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a hands-on mentality. Working with flexibility and with the ability to meet deadlines is essential.
