Development and Communication Manager

Position Summary
Teach For China is excited to announce that we are now recruiting for a full-time Development and Communications Manager, who will report to the Vice President of Development.
Teach For China's Development team works to fulfill Teach For China's potential as a force for change inChina by securing the necessary funding for Teach For China's mission, with an emphasis on resources that will contribute to a long-term sustainable funding model. We do this through marshaling resources,
cultivating public and private sector champions and creating opportunities for revenue growth in China, Hong Kong and the United States of America. As a young organization, Teach For China is focused on building a strong foundation of stakeholders who can support the sustainable growth of Teach For China:the expansion and strengthening of programming and the investment in the organizational infrastructure to support impact.
The Development Manager will play a pivotal role in supporting fundraising in Teach For China's largest funding region, Hong Kong. The Manager will work closely with the Hong Kong-based VP of Development to develop and implement strategy around outreach and stewardship of Hong Kong-based individual and
corporate donors. He/she will drive strong donor communications by supporting design, drafting, and review of grant applications, reports, and other written communications. The Manager will also oversee planning and execution for Teach For China's largest annual fundraising event, the fall Hong Kong
Benefit gala.
Teach For China seeks a mission-focused, proactive individual who is at ease in both the Chinese and US contexts, familiar with the challenges of working in rural China, and a flexible problem-solver. Successful candidates must thrive in a fast-paced work environment and demonstrate the ability to be strategic as well as exceptionally organized. The ideal candidate would be deeply dedicated to Teach For China's mission to end education inequality in China and to making a long-term commitment to working with the organization. This role presents the opportunity to learn about all aspects of the Teach For China Development team's work and to build key skill areas critical to working closely work donors and other partners. As such, we anticipate that a candidate who performs successfully as an Associate will have the opportunity to grow professionally within the role and assume greater responsibility within the Development team's work.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Donor Portfolio Management
• Work closely with the VP of Development to design and execute strategy for engagement with current and potential individual and corporate donors in Hong Kong
• Track engagement with the broad range of donors in Teach For China's Hong Kong donor portfolio
• Draft excellent donor communications
2. Events management
• Oversee strategic and logistical planning and execution of Teach For China's annual Hong Kong Gala
• Work closely with strong external supporters in Teach For China's Hong Kong Gala Committee to ensure strong stewardship of the Gala
• Design and execute other small-scale donor engagement events in Hong Kong including but not limited to cocktail parties, dinners, and corporate promotional events
• Organize and execute engagement activities for Hong Kong-based donors including visits to program regions; information sessions on Teach For China in major cities; remote engagement activities with Fellows and students such as distance mentorship programs, pen pal programs, and materials drives; and other activities
3. Communication support
• Support the Development and Marketing teams in the creation of compelling English-language funding applications, reports, and other donor communications
Qualifications
• All applicants must be eligible to work in HK (e.g. hold HK permanent residency)
• Excellent strategic thinking, research, and analytical skills
• Outstanding attention to detail and strong writing skills
• Ability to produce high-quality work at a fast pace, multi-task, independently prioritize tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, start-up environment
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Bachelor's degree required
• Experience working in the Chinese context
• Seeking both native English and native Chinese speakers (All candidates must be able to communicate in both languages). Cantonese language ability is a plus.
