Research Expert - Empowerment for better livelihoods
Description
The overall objective of the project of which this contract will be a part is as follows:
To contribute to livelihoods enhancement, equity and inclusion of people dependent on the informal economy by improving the quality and coherence of EU actions on this area, including Call for Proposals 135181 "Empowerment for better livelihoods, including skills development and vocational and education training (VET), for marginalised and vulnerable persons, and people dependent on the informal economy" (AAP 2013).
Qualifications Required Only the experts meeting the set criteria will be shortlisted and contacted.
The research expert will have demonstrated research capacity at senior level, with a minimum requirement of a PHD in an area of human sciences or economics or equivalent (a development focus of the PHD will be considered an asset)

General professional experience
At least 10 years of professional experience in research dealing with development studies/poverty/livelihoods improvement in the informal economy in developing countries.

Specific professional experience
- At least 5 years working experience as researcher in an academic institution or Research centre or equivalent with participation in discussing in international high level fora about the challenges of the informal economy in developing countries.
- The research expert will be responsible in coordination with the TL in research tasks, related to background knowledge on the dynamics and causes of the informal economy and the identification of policies and interventions aiming at promoting enhanced livelihoods of people dependent on the informal economy and social inclusion of marginalised people and groups. These tasks will be done on an ad-hoc basis and whenever there are peak workloads in which the TL may need this support so that the TL can concentrate on those activities which add more value to the consultant´s assignment.
- Working knowledge of English and French is essential. Knowledge of other languages of the CfP is an advantage (PT or ES). Language skills may be verified during the evaluation process.
Duration: 48 months (300 work days)
Commencement: 1 January 2015.
