Status: Full-Time Permanent
Department: Program Management and Compliance
Reports To: Program Manager
Compensation Band: 2A
The Translator is part of a cross functional team responsible for quality translation of complex multi-million dollar grant proposals and donor reports.
The Translator’s role will be to provide translation and proof reading for all documentation ranging from expression of interests to large technical proposals (English/French as well as French/English).
• Translate, edit and proofread a variety of documents from English to French and French to English including articles, correspondence, proposals, expression of interest, annual work plans, research documents, terms of reference, project related reports (e.g. progress reports, market studies, gender audits, environmental impact assessments, etc.), and so forth
• Ensure that translations are complete and accurate and that there are no additions/omissions to the original text, the original meaning or the original feeling and intent
• Adapt translations as required according to subject matter and target group
• Clarify with the originators of documents the original meaning, feeling and intent of text to be translated
• Actively participate in projects to improve the efficiency of translation services and the quality of services provided
• Manage access and use of translation software
• Perform other duties as assigned by translation team leader and manager.
Skills/Experience/Qualifications
• Degree in Translation / French communications or equivalent job experience (English/Français).
• 1-3 years of translation work
• Mastery of the French and English language
• Excellent knowledge of translation principles and techniques.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Conscientious and meticulous attention to detail.
• Exceptional organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision with a deep sense of urgency.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and Word.
• Excellent customer service, verbal and written communication skills.
