Project Manager/ Political Party Capacity Building Expert

ERIS are recruiting for a Project Manager/ Political Party Capacity-Building Expert to lead on a project, aimed at enhancing and developing the particular skills, networks, structures and approaches that ethnic political parties could use to engage meaningfully in Myanmar’s peace process and in politics at their local level.
This project will be led by Electoral Reform International Services (ERIS), in partnership with Democracy Reporting International (DRI) and two civil society organisations: Ar Yone Oo Social Development Association and the National Enlightenment Institute.
Key project activities will comprise periods of dedicated mentoring for representatives from up to six political parties and two programmes of training, looking at party capacity development. The first phase of training will target central executive committee members of all political parties active in the target areas and focus on strategic and organisational issues that need to be addressed to strengthen the resilience and capacity of parties to operate at both the local and national level. The second phase will focus on party building these parties' technical capacities to engage, effectively and meaningfully, in the peace process, as well as in politics more broadly. The project will prepare training materials and translate them into relevant local languages, and organise two public events to bring the project to a wider audience.
Candidate Profile
A senior political party training expert and experienced project manager with the ability to establish good working relations with local beneficiaries and international interlocutors. The project manager will be dedicated full-time to the project and who will be in charge of planning and coordination of activities, as well as participating in coordination groups.
Qualifications and skills:
  • Expert in electoral assistance or political party training and project management.
  • Degree(s) in Political Science or related fields
General professional experience and behaviours
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in electoral assistance and/or political party development.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing projects and teams.
  • Demonstrable experience of devising and delivering effective training and training materials.
  • A high standard of written and spoken English.
  • Willingness and ability to work unsociable hours, on occasion.
  • Strong inter-personal skills and experience of working with diverse cultures.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for extended periods of time, sometimes to remote locations
Specific professional experience and skills
  • Minimum 3 years’ proven experience in political party capacity-building.
  • Experience of report writing for international institutions.
  • Practical familiarity with post-conflict/reconstruction and developing contexts.
  • Excellent communication and team-building skills.
  • Prior experience in Myanmar or the Asia region a strong advantage.
  • Experience of working with ethnic/minority/indigenous groups is an advantage.
  • Burmese language skills an asset
