Project Officer , University of Leeds

In alignment with the University of Leeds international strategy, the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Leeds has been developing academic and management plans for the creation of a new collaborative partnership in student education and research with Xi’Nan Jiaotong University in Chengdu, China. The proposed partnership will take the form of a Joint School, which will be wholly owned by Xi’Nan Jiaotong, that will deliver dual degrees (Leeds B.Eng. plus the equivalent degree from Xi’Nan Jiaotong) in different engineering disciplines. The School will be based in Chengdu, with English as the medium of instruction, and students will have the option of undertaking all four years in Chengdu or completing their studies in Leeds. It is anticipated that the first cohort of students will be recruited to begin their studies in September 2015.

We are seeking a Project Officer to develop operational policies and procedures to effectively support the excellent student experience of registrants of the Joint School and to participate in, and influence, the collaborative aspects of the operational delivery of these policies and procedures. This will involve, with support from a range of academic and professional colleagues, negotiating and agreeing the operationalisation of support functions for the Joint School: admissions, assessment, quality assurance, programme support, student support; and identifying the requirements for a student support team in Chengdu.

You will have a thorough understanding of student education processes and the ability to develop new operations in higher education. Additionally, you will be a skilled networker with strong strategic and operational planning and management and leadership skills. It would be useful for you to have experience of working across international boundaries and with different cultures, preferably in China. You must be willing and able to travel between the UK and China and to spend extended periods of time in both countries.

The project is being managed as two phases: roll-out and day-to-day delivery. The roll-out phase is planned to last for 15 months from October 2014. However, following this, it may be possible for the successful applicant to lead on the operational aspects of the second phase should such a role be mutually agreeable.

Please note that this post is fixed term until 31st December 2015, so the contract length will be dependent on the start date.
