The mission of the Civil Peace Service (CPS) programme consists of the non-violent and constructive conflict resolution. Professionals in CPS seek to prevent the outbreak of violent conflicts and contribute to settle existing violent conflicts peacefully. Based on the church-related and civil-social commitment of our partners in Ruanda, the CPS aims to contribute to civil conflict management through peace-building measures.
After the genocide of 1994, the Commission Justitia et Pax (CDJP) of the Byumba diocese, originally founded in 1988, was reconvened in 1998. Its aim is to promote justice, peace, and reconciliation in the tradition of Catholic social doctrine and to help enforce human rights. The CDJP works together with associations on the parish level in fostering reconciliation between groups of victims and perpetrators. Topics include resource conflicts between farmers and cattle breeders as well as domestic violence.

Your tasks...
... require a high degree of expertise in peace and reconciliation work. You must be able to employ this expertise in supporting existing tasks, giving you a variety of possibilities for shaping the development of project-related methods. Specifically you will
- Provide trainings to intensify and deepen knowledge about peace and conflict management amongst the employees. The focus lies on the conception of developing projects and activities as part of reconciliation work and in the development of new approaches for conflict resolution.
- Train staff in the areas of programme management and PM&E and in certain methods of impact assessment using defined effectiveness indicators for planned measures.
- Strengthen the capacities of staff in using Methodes Accelerees der Recherches Participatives (MARP) for a successful collaboration with the target group. The principle of "do no harm" is the focus of all areas of work: accompanying the target groups in the communities and in approaching and communicating with remote villages and their residents.
- Supervise work on the communal level, consult in the area of fundraising, support the staff of CDJP in maintaining its Website.
Your qualifications
- You have completed a university degree in an area relevant for development cooperation and have a professional experience in Germany and abroad, ideally in Africa.
- You have solid theoretical and practical knowledge in the areas of conflict resolution, peacework, and reconciliation. You would like to bring this knowledge to a multidisciplinary team as a consultant. Ideally, you have already worked on topics concerning common law and/or domestic violence.
- You are familiar with organisational development and project management. You are skilled in planning, monitoring, evaluation, grant proposals, and fundraising.
- You enjoy conveying knowledge and information in the area of adult education. You are also able to prepare and teach materials in an appropriate manner for different targets groups.
- You can adapt to different environments and are willing to live and work in urban areas. You can treat your colleagues, members of local communities, and other actors openly, sensitively, and respectively.
- You acknowledge AGEH's understanding of itself as a Catholic personnel service provider, are a member of a Christian church, and comport yourself accordingly.
- You are an EU citizen or a citizen of Switzerland and speak French well and English flawlessly.
What we offer

We will prepare you thoroughly and individually for your work. As per the German Development Aid Workers Act (Entwicklungshelfergesetz), you will receive an employment contract, including social security and a remuneration commensurate to the position.
