Volunteer Accountants

The need for financial professionals in the developing world has never been higher. With much of the social development that is underway stemming from local initiatives that simply cannot afford to hire an accountant, it is vital that they maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of their limited resources. AfID volunteers mentor the local staff and teach them the skills they need in order for the organisation to continue growing long after the volunteer’s placement has ended.

Accounting for International Development (AfID) has worked with over 300 charities, NGOs and social enterprises across 50 countries. We place highly skilled volunteer accountants with organisations ranging from grassroots community initiatives to international institutions, but the goal is always the same; to change lives and improve the quality of those lives.

Our assignments can last anywhere between 2 weeks and 12 months, dependent on your availability and commitment. We tailor our assignments to your needs and abilities, dependent on where you think your work could make the biggest difference and how much time you can spare. Your skills and experience in the financial sector could make the difference for our partner organisations abroad, who often lack access to the professional abilities and desperately need them in order to remain operational. Through a series of capacity building exercises, streamlining and training, you are the difference between the success and failure of our partners.

They have helped to lift people out of poverty and allow them to fulfil their potential in life; whether through providing vital healthcare or education services, or changing social attitudes towards women, or tackling poverty, disease and homelessness – our partners are doing outstanding work.
