Program Coordinator , The African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF)

The Program Coordinator reports directly to the Executive Secretary and is responsible for coordinating and managing the Capacity Improvement project that the Foundation is implementing to enhance the capacity of high potential African non-profit organisations to effectively implement programs in health, agriculture and financial services. Overall the Program Coordinator ensures that the Foundation is on track for the formulation, implementation of its key deliverables and following up on key priorities of the project while managing the resources allocated to this project. 
 
Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Manage the assessment of capacity development requirements of the selected organizations to inform the development of capacity improvement strategies and plans.
  • Lead the development and designing of the capacity improvement plans for selected organisations that will be funded under the project for approval by the Executive Secretary.
  • Lead the identification, selection and selection process for the development of a database of high-potential organizational capacity building service providers.
  • Assist the grantees to identify and contract capacity building service providers.
  • Prepare and submit to the Executive Secretary an annual work plan and budget for every fiscal year in consultation with finance department.
  • Collaborate with legal department in the preparation of grant arrangements and any applicable legal instruments.
  • Lead the recruitment of consultants and liaise with relevant departments ensuring proper consultants contract management.
  • Provide supervisory role to consultants ensuring effective coordination and monitoring of the flow of activities according to specific project deliverables and within specified timeframes.
  • Lead the monitoring of the implementation of capacity improvement plans to ensure that activities are on track to meet expected deliverables and provide timely and optimal course corrections.
  • Facilitate networking and communication between project officials, ACBF and other stakeholders, providing constant update briefs, reports on critical issues and following up as required.
  • Undertake supervision missions, meetings with the project officials to follow-up on status of project activities, action items to ensure that activities are on track as planned.
  • Provide regular updates, briefings and progress reports to the ACBF Executive Secretary and implementing partners on the status of each project.
  • Collaborate with the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit to ensure that a robust monitoring and evaluation system is developed for the project to allow for effective attainment and measurement of the key performance indicators of the intervention. 
SELECTION CRITERIA 
Selection will be on a competitive basis and the following minimum qualifications, experience and competencies are required: 
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, International Development, Organisational Development or similar academic qualifications obtained from a recognized institution.
  • 10+ years working experience as a Business Development Consultant, Business Analyst, Program Coordinator in Consulting, Advisory Service firms or similar position with international organisations.
  • Proven experience in capacity development, project management, organisational development, business process re-engineering, change management and strategic planning will be a distinct advantage.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in working in a high pressure, fast moving, diverse environment of decision-making.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral with ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy in internal as well as external relations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and strong managerial ability.  Ability to interact and influence at the senior levels of the organisation and the ability to work collaboratively across functions, levels and departments toward shared objectives.
  • Ability to make objective decisions and resolve problems, exercising the highest responsibility to handle confidential and sensitive issues in a responsible and mature manner.
  • Strong organising, work planning and scheduling skills, capable of handling  large volumes of logistical details accurately and thoroughly while balancing several complex agendas.
  • Strong IT skills with the ability to make PowerPoint presentations.
