Research Fellow in Participation

 Research Fellow in Participation (Ref:697)
Full time, 35 hours per week
Permanent
The Participation Research Cluster at IDS is looking for a research fellow.  You will have an exceptional combination of skills. Above all you must be an experienced and skilled participatory facilitator with a strong background in at least one participatory research methodology. You must have either a Ph.D or equivalence in research experience, and you must have a track record of generating grant income. The methods that we work with include: action research and action learning; participatory mapping (system mapping, network mapping, GIS mapping etc), participatory visual methods (participatory video, digital stories and photo voice); participatory statistics; dialogic and deliberative processes; peer research; participatory Monitoring and Evaluation.
The Participation Cluster is embarking on a new direction of travel which is focused on the intersection between participatory practice and extreme poverty and marginalisation. We currently have  programmes of research work on slavery and bonded labour, disability, peace processes in intractable conflict zones, urban violence, community led total sanitation, and ground-level participatory processes that speak to national and global policy processes. We are interested in taking participatory processes to scale; developing participatory methods that engage meaningfully with people living in poverty and marginalisation; participatory pedagogies; technologies to support participatory data analysis, and digital participation.
You will have a real passion for participation and how it can engage with power; be a productive researcher who delivers high quality work; an innovator with a can-do outlook who can make things happen, and a colleague who is committed to living the values that we advocate to the world in our team.
