Aflatoun International is a non-governmental organization focusing on educating children about their rights and responsibilities and managing natural and financial resources through social and financial education. Children are empowered to make a positive change in their lives and in their communities, with the aim of ultimately leading them to breaking the cycle of poverty in which many find themselves. Headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands, The Aflatoun programme is currently implemented in 113 countries and reaches 5 million children. A big number of these young people are now saving or have started an enterprise.
Through Aflatoun programmes children are inspired to discover their talents and put them to use, to stand up for their rights and those of their communities, to play games and to solve problems. They learn how to save, how to budget and how to set up social and financial enterprises that benefit themselves, their families and their neighborhoods.
Aflatoun employs the social franchise model whereby partners have ownership of the programme. The secretariat develops curricula in collaboration with its partners and provides them with technical assistance, network support, advocacy and training materials to implement the Aflatoun methodology.
Aflatoun has been ranked at the 29th place in the NGO world TOP500 by Global Geneva, a non-profit platform.
Aflatoun has a multidisciplinary team of professionals. We are now looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Unit Head Fundraising and Communications to join us in our mission.
The Unit Head, Fundraising and External Communications (FEC) will support the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in strategic planning implementation and management of the, fundraising and External communications activities of Aflatoun. The Unit Head, FEC is a key member of the management team. The role would involve leading the team’s resource mobilization and external visibility building initiatives. She /he will represent organization at meetings with strategic donors and work with official donor agencies of governments, foundations, corporations, financial institutions as well as individuals in order to realize Aflatoun’s position as thought leader in social and financial education. The FEC Unit Head is responsible for the smooth and efficient functioning of the organization’s department for Fundraising and External Communications which is comprised of four other staff members. The FEC Unit Head works in tandem with the CEO in delivering the departmental and organizational goals
Key Reponsibilities
Meet communications, policy advice, fundraising and outreach needs of Aflatoun programmes
- Develop and deliver on strategies on external communication, visibility campaigns, media contacts and knowledge dissemination
- Develop and make sure implementation on the agreed annual work plans for the unit.
- Serve as spokesperson and point of contact for national and international media
- Build strong and effective working relationships with stakeholders including governments, donors, bilateral organizations, media, other NGOs and private sector.
- Represent Aflatoun at various national and international conferences and workshops.
- Work with CEO on fundraising through innovative sources.
- Provide efficient supervision and management for all direct reportees and lead establishment and functioning of a strong, effective and coordinated team.
- Ensure that an environment exists to allow team to develop and innovate.
- Oversee recruitment and induction of new team members.
- Deliver training workshops in collaboration with Aflatoun’s policy for Capacity Building
- Develop effective working relationships with programmes and programme support units including administration, finance, human resources, procurement, internal audit and compliance
- Adhere to policies/procedures and ensure staff compliance.
- Any other professional assignment as given by the CEO.
We are looking for a native or near-native English speaker. Knowledge of additional languages such as Dutch, French, Arabic, Spanish, German or Russian is an advantage. The candidate should have a successful proven track record in Fundraising (to be included in application).
Conditions of Employment:
The position is for a fulltime work week (40 hours). We offer a dynamic and pleasant multicultural working environment, with an indicative gross salary between € 3.721 and € 5.711 per month based on a 40 hours week and depending on educational background and working experience (this salary is inclusive of pension, health insurance, holiday allowance and national insurance contributions). The contract will be offered for six months initially and will be extended for further period depending on performance and availability of resources.
