EU Ecolabel Coordinator

have a vacancy for an

EU Ecolabel Coordinator

for a FULL-TIME (12 months) position renewable 3 times


The Ecolabel Coordinator will represent simultaneously EEB and BEUC as stakeholders in the EU Ecolabel Scheme, and oversee the participation of representing experts in product group development.

The Co-ordinator will work under the responsibility of environmental policy staff at both EEB and BEUC.

He/she will work 4 days per week in the framework of the European Commission's proposal for “Work on the implementation of the EU Ecolabel Scheme in the area of stakeholder representation” of Environmental NGOs and Consumers. For the 5th day, the Coordinator will work for EEB on green public procurement (GPP), in criteria development processes.


The work consists of:

  • Representing EEB and BEUC at the European Ecolabelling Board Ad-Hoc Working Groups and working with these constituencies to prepare positions;
  • Selecting and environmental and consumer experts to take part in Ecolabel product groups;
  • submitting written positions for these product groups;
  • undertaking actions to promote and diffuse information about the Ecolabel;
  • reporting on all of the above for the European Commission;
  • coordinating EEB advocacy in the decision-making process on GPP criteria development;
  • monitoring information related to the GPP developments at EU level and the implementation of GPP targets by Member States.


Qualities and Experiences

The candidate should:

  • have a relevant degree, in environmental studies or an area of specialisation relevant to the Ecolabel;
  • have a background and/or first hand experience in environmental labelling and/or sustainable product policy;
  • have affinity and/or experience of working with environmental or consumers organisations in Europe;
  • have knowledge of relevant environmental and consumer policy issues;
  • have policy experience, including analysis of policy proposals, and formulation and presentation of both oral and written comments/proposals for change;
  • have knowledge of the operation of the European Union institutions as well as EU environmental and consumer legislation;
  • have good communication, team-work and networking skills;
  • be able to deal both with environment and consumer topics;
  • speak and write English fluently;
  • be prepared to work outside normal office hours, if necessary, and to travel.
