NRC is lead of the Shelter Sector coordination in Gaza. Despite the limited actual shelter reconstruction activities due to lack of access to materials, the coordination mechanism has facilitated activities including; information management via the creation of the Unified Shelter Sector Database, development of the Gaza reconstruction guidelines and advocacy activities. During 2011, reconstruction in Gaza is anticipated to pick up pace and NRC will continue to play a role.

The NRC Gaza ICLA project currently has a direct case-load of app. 1,500 families. The military incursions have resulted in a high number of Gazans who have lost their homes. The two main aims of the project include 1)To assist beneficiaries in proving ownership of property to improve security of tenure 2) Provide legal assistance for vulnerable women on family legal issues in partnership with local legal aid NGOs in Gaza.

The NRC Education project is currently in its start-up phase and implemented in cooperation with UNRWA, with a special focus on; parental skills and participation, teacher skills and motivation, support to school councils and management and physical school environment and facilities.

In early 2011 NRC Gaza received funding for a new project in the food security sector, titled ‘Increase household food security through a cash and voucher system designed to support local livelihoods’.

The purose of the position is under the guidance of the NRC oPt Country Director and Gaza Area Manager, the PM Food Security will contribute to the achievement of NRC’s objectives in the Gaza Strip including being responsible for the start up, overall planning and implementation of the new NRC Food Security project in the Gaza Strip.
