Legal Adviser - Africa

Salary: £38,976 per annum
Contract: Temporary contract of two months in duration

A key platform in achieving our aims is maintaining our pre-eminent position in the field of human rights legal and policy analysis and it is here that you will play a vital role to help us make a real difference to millions.

About the role
As an experienced human rights legal adviser, you will provide advice on relevant aspects of national law and practice in the countries of Africa, including international humanitarian law and crimes under international law. You will also identify, evaluate and contribute to standard-setting initiatives within the United Nations system and regional bodies leading our response and lobbying. You may also represent Amnesty International (AI) at international meetings and participate in AI missions.

About you
With a professional legal qualification in at least one jurisdiction and with experience in practice, you will have extensive knowledge of international law including international human rights law , humanitarian law and international criminal law. You must have sound political judgement, and knowledge of the
African regional and subregional institutions is strongly preferred. You must have also have excellent oral and written English, and a good knowledge working of French is highly desirable.
