RESEARCH SCHOLAR IN FLUVIAL SEDIMENTOLOGY

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to initiate, establish and develop research programmes leading to improved understanding of current sediment distribution patterns and bedform changes in relation to flow conditions in the Okavango Delta. Specific research activities should be directed towards aspects of sediment distribution in relation to hydro-, geo- and ecological variability of the Delta including (i) contributing to the work of the monitoring unit by developing and establishing monitoring programmes in sediment transfer (ii) contributing to the research environment of the Institute by preparing project proposals for funding (iii) working in a team and being able to interact constructively both in current research programmes and joint proposal development and (vi) teaching and supervising undergraduate and graduate students.

Requirements: Candidates should have the following qualifications (i) A PhD or equivalent qualification in Physical Geography, Geology, Earth Science or related field with a specialisation in fluvial sedimentology or fluvial geomorphology (ii) university teaching experience or equivalent will be an added advantage (iii) evidence of engagement in research, academic leadership and of service to the university, profession and community will also be an added advantage
