RESEARCH SCHOLAR IN LANDSCAPE ECOLOGY

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) conduct research in and develop research programmes leading to improved understanding of: the links between spatial patterns and ecological processes, scale issues, and large scale human-environment interactions in the Okavango Basin, the Kgalagadi, and the southern African region. Specific research activities should be directed towards (inter alia): evaluating and modelling landscape parameters (such as gamma diversity; landform distribution, generation and evolution; wildlife habitat connectivity (functional and structural), mapping animal movements, contributing to the development of spatial models of vegetation and flood dynamics; exploring interactions between processes such as fire, flooding and grazing; producing scenarios of landscape and habitat change under different climate regimes (ii) contribute to the research environment of the institute by preparing project proposals for funding (iii) work in a team and be able to interact and join current research programmes at the institute (v) disseminate scholarly research findings (vi) teach and supervise undergraduate and graduate students.

Requirements: (i) Candidates should have the following qualifications: A PhD Geography, Ecology or related field; (ii) skills in spatial modelling and GIS, with remote sensing and/or telemetry an advantage; (iii) university teaching experience or equivalent will be an added advantage (iv) evidence of engagement in research, academic leadership and of service to the university, profession and community will also be added advantages
