“Technical Assistance for Mining Waste Management” Project
Duration: 24 months
Commencement: August 2011

Objective: To prevent or reduce any adverse effects upon the environment, in particular for water, air, soil, fauna and flora and'landscape, and any resultant risks arising to human health as a consequence of waste management from the extractive industries,

Key expert 1: Team Leader

Team Leader (TL), will work on daily basis with the counterparts and coordinate expert's input and output to relevant institutions and in relation with each project activities. He will prepare work plan, inception report, interim reports and final report. TL will provide technical advice and assist the administration and other public sector bodies of the MoEF and MENR in the context of the predetermined work plan. He will attend the study visits or will ensure attendance of at least one expert. He will be responsible for the detailed planning and the evaluation of the activities of the project as well as all the documents produced during the project's life (e.g. expert's reports, guidance documents, study visits, meetings, workshops materials, and other reports). He will organize quarterly meetings and project forum meetings. In addition and taking into account his/her specific skills regarding waste management, the TL will be a direct contributor to the agenda of seminars and workshops as well as other major single events. TL will be in a good coordination with RTA of Twinning Component of project. Also he/she will attend the Steering Committee meetings.

Qualifications and skills:
• University degree in Environmental, Geological or Mining Engineering or equivalent.
• Good command of English
• Full computer literacy (Word, Excel, Power Point)
General professional experience:
• Minimum 10 years professional experience in related fields.
• Experience in at least one EU funded project as Team Leader will be an asset.
Specific professional experience:
• At least 2 years’ experience in rehabilitation/remediation of mining waste facilities such as tailings and waste dumps
• Experience in environmental/technical audit of closure/rehabilitation activities in the mining industry
• Experience in the assessment of financial instruments used in the extractive industry to ensure that closure/remediation obligations are met
• Experience in EU legislation related with mining sector will be an asset,
