Sino-British College is an international college, which is located in central Shanghai, China, established by University of Shanghai for Science & Technology, and Northern Consortium United Kingdom (NCUK).This education establishment has been welcomed and given full support by the Shanghai Government as it is in line with the government's strategy to increase Shanghai's competitiveness globally through education.

Due to the increase in student numbers, we are now inviting applications for our teaching post for academic year 2011/2012 for SBC:

  • Subject teacher in Mathematics/Further Maths for Pre-undergraduate programme

We give preference to teachers able to teach a combination of subjects especially Maths and Physics.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree, minimum 2 years teaching Experience

Contracts: One year renewable

Remuneration packages (per year):
We offer a very attractive package which includes salary ranging from RMB 180,000/yr to RMB280,000/yr (£18,000 to £28,000) for subject teachers, plus RMB 60,000/yr (£6,000) accommodation & living allowance, flights, baggage allowance, insurance, settling-in allowance and paid leave.

Job Purpose:
To work collaboratively with other teachers in the college to develop students' subject specific knowledge and study skills so that they can perform effectively on courses in an English-speaking university environment. This should be achieved through delivery of the relevant syllabus provided. To embrace fully the college's objectives and ensure, with the resources available, the best possible learning experience and progression opportunities for the college's students.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Academic qualification at graduate level. (Essential).
  • A recognised teaching qualification (Essential) For EAP teachers, a Diploma or equivalent in ELT (EAP Teachers with a recognised ELT certificate will be considered providing they have relevant experience).
  • Relevant teaching experience (Essential). Normally a minimum of two years. (Desirable).
  • The ability to contribute to integrated teaching across the curriculum. (Essential)
  • An understanding of UK/western higher education and the needs and requirements of international students (Essential).
  • Direct experience of further and higher education in an international context (Essential).
  • Specific experience of education in China (Desirable).
  • Experience of the development of academic programmes (Desirable).
  • Experience of academic assessment and standards and of quality assurance procedures (Essential).
  • Experience of teaching non-native speakers of English (Desirable).
  • An understanding and appreciation of private sector education (Desirable).
  • Experience of living and working in China (Desirable)

Skills (Essential):

  • Demonstrable cross-cultural awareness and understanding.
  • A commitment to teamwork, to working flexibly and to seeking solutions to problems.
  • A record of achievement in teaching.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills including native speaker fluency in English. Numerate and articulate.
  • Competence in the effective use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT).
