NUBS China is an integral part of the Nottingham University Business School awarding the same internationally recognized degrees offered by Nottingham in the UK. In operation for only six years, NUBS China already has approximately 2,000 undergraduate students, 300 masters students, and a small Ph.D. program. It has an international faculty of 60, coming from over 20 countries, permanently based in Ningbo and plans to grow to about 90 over the coming few years. It is EQUIS accredited and is part of a university that is highly rated and is seeking to improve further its ranking among the world’s top research and teaching universities. NUBS China obtained a new Dean (Carl Fey) in April 2011 and has ambitious plans to expand including increasing its focus on research and executive education. NUBS China, which carries out instruction in English, is also significantly increasing its research focus and provides an excellent environment and conditions for scholars interested in pursuing an active research agenda.
Ningbo is located only 2½ hours from Shanghai by car. It is a relatively high-income city for China, with a per capita income (PPP basis) of about US $12,000. Ningbo has one of China’s largest deep-water ports, a modern airport with excellent connections to cities such as Beijing, Hong Kong, Seoul and Taipei and high-speed rail connections to other major cities in China. It has international schools, excellent shopping facilities and an attractive multicultural nightlife. It also has many rivers, lakes and mountains in the outskirts and is considered to be one of the cities in China which has the best quality of life.
Candidates are expected to have a PhD in a relevant area by the time they start to work. Excellent English communication skills are essential. Candidates are also expected to have demonstrated an ability to conduct high-quality research together with strong teaching abilities.
NUBS China offers European-level salaries and excellent benefits with reasonable teaching loads. NUBS China also provides a competitive research support package for candidates showing good research output. An attractive international benefits package including accommodation allowance, travel allowance, support for international schooling (there are three international schools in Ningbo), and insurance (including international medical insurance) will be provided for international appointments.
This post is available from 1 September 2012 (or earlier subject to mutual aqreement) and will initially be offered on a fixed-term contract with the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China for a period of up to seven years. This contract may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement, subject to revised terms and conditions.
