To be based either in Nairobi-Kenya, Addis Ababa-Ethiopia or Dakar - Senegal

Level: C1 National

Maternity Cover: 5th September 2011 - 4th May 2012

The Role

We are looking to recruit a Pan Africa Gender Justice Lead to lead on policy and strategy development for Pan Africa projects on gender justice. Reporting to the Pan Africa Director, you will work and represent Oxfam within partner alliances to deliver on agreed advocacy plans and strategies related governance and gender justice issues. You will actively lobby and maintain networks with policy makers at continental and national levels, support fundraising efforts by the Pan Africa Director and provide specialist on continental policy standards. Training and mentoring of staff, partners and alliances on policy and advocacy will be an integral part of this role.

The Person

You will bring proven experience of public policy advocacy, media communication in Africa and sound understanding of gender equality and women's rights in Africa. You will posses excellent communication and analytical skills with diplomacy and tact coupled with a drive to achieve results. You are committed to promoting gender equity and diversity, and will show an active commitment to promoting the interests of marginalized people in all aspects of the organisation's work.

Dimensions

§ Work within the Pan Africa team.

§ Participate and represent Oxfam within partner alliances delivering on agreed advocacy plans and strategies related to governance and gender justice related issues in line with project objectives.

§ Provides specialist advice on continental policy standards, policymaking moments, appropriate African allies and relevant OI positions

§ Analyses and communicates complex information to an internal and public audience.

§ Management of relationships and financial resources without variances to meet the outcomes and milestones contained in HECA61

§ Actively lobbies, accompanies and supports allies and staff to engage policy makers at a continental and national level by maintaining a set of personal contacts and relationships.

§ Supports fundraising efforts by Pan Africa Director producing clear and quality reports (financial and narrative) as well contributing to funding proposals.
