Regional Environmental Management Engineer United States-Utah-Salt Lake City

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities include:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the implementation of a comprehensive compliance management system in the North America Regional Business Unit (NARBU). This includes adherence to the ISO 14001 standard and the Barrick Environmental Management System (EMS).

This position will also assist the region with review and the implementation of Federal, State/Provincial and local regulatory requirements and other company obligations. This position will collaborate closely with NARBU operations and closure properties in establishing evaluation of compliance programs. Key to this function is the ability to effectively engage with site managers and environmental, process and operational staffs to develop tailored internal review programs, training and general inspection programs to assure continued regulatory compliance.

Duties include but not limited to the following:
• Develop and implement compliance evaluation program consistent with ISO 14001-2004 standard. This program will be incorporated into the NARBU EMS Internal Audit Protocol in conjunction with evaluation of ISO 14001 conformance.
• Provide leadership in reviewing and working closely with operating sites to maintain compliance and facilitate mitigation actions.
• Actively engage and train regional environmental staff to participate in internal audits/reviews for regulatory compliance and ISO/EMS reviews.
• Provide leadership, act as a mentor and assist with the facilitation of the development and effectiveness of the company’s environmental programs and policies for overall standardization within Barrick and NARBU sites.
• Ensure that assignments and regulatory/ISO/EMS reviews is moved forward expeditiously and responsibly.
• Provide direction and expertise as necessary in the timely scheduling and performance of site reviews.
• Develop and maintain a clear and open line of communication with environmental personnel at mine sites on all issues and actions.
• Provide awareness of ISO/EMS program to assist the continuation of complete implementation of the Barrick EMS.
• Coordinate the scheduling of regional internal environmental audits/reviews.
• Prepare internal audit reports that effectively summarize audit/review findings and suggest corrective and preventive actions plans to address non-compliance issues.
• Develop and implement program to track corrective and preventive action plans through effective completion.
• Represent region during Barrick Corporate environmental audits of NARBU sites as assigned.
• Attend interactive meetings with regulatory agencies and state mining associations to represent Barrick NA.
• Develop working relationships with state/provincial and federal regulatory agency staff members in order to become the face of Barrick compliance.
• Actively participate in state/provincial and national mining association environmental committee meetings.

SELECTION CRITERIA

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
To be considered for this job, applicants must meet these basic requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, such as Environmental, Mining, Geological or other Engineering, or Science discipline required
• Minimum of 10 years experience in a position with responsibilities for air permitting of mining operations required. Experience with NEPA and permitting in Nevada is preferred
• Experience in air modeling and software programs required
• Demonstrated successful professional environmental work with Federal and State regulatory agencies required
• Must have a confident, professional demeanor and presence to effectively command attention and respect from a diverse audience, both internally and externally required
• Must have the ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously required
