Associate General Counsel, major university

Our client is a major new university which is focused on being a world renowned leader in science and technology. Reporting to the General Counsel, key responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating and researching legal matters including those related to university governance, the endowment, external funding support, intellectual property, and compliance with relevant international and national regulations
  • Providing advice to university management and organisations on personnel or student concerns and the university’s policies and procedures
  • Assisting the General Counsel and Secretary of the University regarding its policies, programmes, practices and activities which are affected by legal considerations
  • Ensuring that research grants and employment agreements are administered in accordance with their terms and conditions

The ideal candidate will be a qualified lawyer with significant experience practicing in a broad range of legal areas within a complex organisational structure, preferably in a higher education or research-based environment. Strong interpersonally and with effective leadership skills, this individual will have the ability to complete assigned tasks effectively and promptly with little or no supervision and with superior attention to detail. Knowledge of Sharia law and Middle East culture is desirable but not essential.
