Chief Economist - Department of Finance, State of California

The California Department of Finance (Finance) is seeking a Chief Economist to direct the periodic national and state economic forecasts used for revenue estimating and perform other economic analytical work. As a cabinet-level state department, Finance is responsible for the development of the Governor’s Budget, and plays a significant role in the enactment and administration of the state budget and fiscal legislation. A principal function of Finance is to serve as the Governor’s chief fiscal policy advisor, including issues related to economic, taxation, and business development. The Chief Economist is the state’s recognized economic expert, and has broad authority to develop and perform economic forecasts. The incumbent manages Finance’s Economic Research Unit and a professional staff of two. ANNUAL SALARY/BENEFITS
$113,441 – 125,083
Actual salary will be determined based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
