HVAC Technician - US EMBASSY IN SOUTH AFRICA

The U.S. Consulate General in Johannesburg is seeking an individual for the position of HVAC Technician in the Facilities Maintenance Unit (FMU).

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications Required: NOTE: ALL APPLICANTS MUST ADDRESS EACH SELECTION CRITERION DETAILED BELOW WITH SPECIFIC AND COMPREHENSIVE INFORMATION SUPPORTING EACH ITEM.
Items 1- 5 are ALL REQUIRED

1. Education: Completion of secondary school is required. Specialized training and certification as an HVAC/Refrigeration technician with industrial
experience and completion of the Safe Hand of Registration Course is required.
2. Experience: Three to five years of progressively responsible work experience in the HVAC trade; specialization in computer driven
electromechanical control systems (Chillers, Hydronic Pumps and AHU’s).
3. Language: Level III English (Good working knowledge) Reading, Writing and Speaking required.
4. Knowledge:
- Full journeyman knowledge of modern HVAC equipment including chillers, hydronic pumps, digital controls, and plumbing
- Must have Knowledge of established standard trade practices and industry norms.
- Must be familiar with industry standard lockout/tag out procedures.
5. Skills and Abilities:
- Must have the ability to interpret blueprints, schematic and standard industry symbols.
- Must have comprehensive trade skills in the HVAC field.
- Must be able to use all related power tools, measuring devices and meters pertinent to the trade.
- Must be able to do layout and installation of ducting and VAV’s.
- Must have a valid Code 8 (EB) driver’s license.

Job Specification

Basic Function of Position: The incumbent performs installation, preventative, and corrective maintenance on complex heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. The incumbent must be proficient in microprocessor based controls for HVAC systems. The incumbent must have knowledge of Reliability Centered Maintenance programs.
