PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANT – REGIONAL COURT

Salary: R299 625 per annum (Ref. WC/NC 09/11)
Kimberley Justice Centre

Key outputs: • Provide legal representation to indigent accused persons primarily at Regional Court Level
• Train and supervise Candidate Attorneys • Perform office administration.

Competencies (skills, knowledge and attributes) required: • Admitted Attorney or Advocate (the latter must have completed pupilage successfully at an institution recognised by Legal Aid SA) • Legal representation at Regional Court Level • LLB degree or equivalent • At least 7 years’ post-qualification legal experience/5 years’ post-admission experience (OSD salary scale levels 5 and 6) • Proven track record in criminal defense • Valid driver’s licence will be an advantage • Right of appearance in High Court an added advantage • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Analytical thinking • Team player • Self-development orientation.

PRINCIPAL ATTORNEY – CIVIL

Salary: R557 062 per annum (all-inclusive)
Johannesburg Justice Centres

Applications are invited from persons interested to fill the above-mentioned position, reporting to the Justice Centre Executive. Applicants must be admitted Attorneys and must comply with the definition of Principal in the Attorney’s Act.

Key outputs: • Manage the functioning and administration of the civil unit of the Justice Centre • Manage civil legal aid to the poor in the coverage area of the unit • Act as Principal for Candidate Attorneys • Handle complex civil matters • Supervise and guide Civil Professional Assistants and Paralegals • Train and develop staff • Provide support and assistance to civil sections of Justice Centres in the designated cluster.

Competencies (skills, knowledge and attributes) required: • Admitted Attorney • LLB or BProc • At least 12 years post-qualification legal experience, with a minimum of 10 years’ post-admission experience of which 4 years must have been court experience • Excellent leadership and people management skills • Ability to manage a civil practice • Ability to train Candidate Attorneys as Professional Assistants • Strong analytical ability and excellent communication skills • Valid driver’s licence.

CORPORATE SERVICES ADMIN MANAGER

Salary: R434 505 per annum (all-inclusive) (Level 11)
National Office

The above position exists at the National Office in Braamfontein. This is a permanent position reporting to the Corporate Services Executive. Applications are invited from persons interested to fill the above-mentioned position.

Position purpose: To manage and coordinate the Administrative and Financial function of the Corporate Services Department.

Key outputs: • Manage and coordinate special projects on behalf of the Corporate Services Executive to achieve the objectives of Legal Aid South Africa • Manage and coordinate the administrative function of the Corporate Services Department relating to Archives, Post Room, Facilities Management, Fleet Management, Business Continuity and Reception divisions • Assist the Corporate Services Department in the preparation of annual budgets and compile monthly deviation reports and quarterly medium-term expenditure projections • Consolidate management accounts of the department and report non-compliance to the Corporate Services Executive on a monthly basis • Coordinate requests for proposals from service providers and facilitate the draft of contracts relating to the approved proposals • Manage information and coordinate statistical reporting of Management Information Reports as required.

Competencies (skills, knowledge and attributes) required: • Recognised tertiary qualification in Administration (3-year Bachelor’s degree/diploma) • 2 years’ administrative and financial experience at Management level.
