Description
GSMA mWomen is an unprecedented, public-private partnership between the worldwide mobile industry and the international development community. The programme harnesses the power of the private sector to accelerate underserved women's ownership of mobile phones, while partnering with the international development community to provide life-enhancing services to these women through mobile technology. The partnership addresses key barriers to women’s mobile phone ownership in the developing world. A London-based team, with field-based consultants and a constellation of public and private partners, aims to achieve the programme objectives by fostering an enabling market environment that will help the mobile industry and international development community partners realize the social and commercial opportunities of the women’s segment. The Commercial Programme Manager will deliver a suite of GSMA mWomen tools and services to help mobile industry partners recognize and realize commercial opportunities arising from serving women in developing markets. Key roles and responsibilities include the following: • Refine and expand the GSMA mWomen toolkit for mobile operators. Working with industry partners to accelerate analysis and entry into the women’s market, the Commercial Programme Manager will expand the suite of tools to enable market segmentation and sizing, analysis of profit drivers for reaching women, female customer acquisition and retention strategies, tracking brand equity value, et cetera. The tools will be designed based on the needs identified by the GSMA mWomen Working Group of mobile industry partners. • Provide ongoing support to field-based, short-term consultants working with mobile operators and development partners on the ground. Through a competitive grant mechanism, GSMA mWomen will fund a set of short-term consultants to help mobile operators and other partners to develop the business case and offerings to serve their local women’s segments. The Commercial Programme Manager will orient and equip these consultants with mWomen toolkits and knowledge, and serve as a coach and thought partner to help the consultants deliver high-quality services. • Provide advisory services to GSMA mWomen mobile industry partners. This support may include delivering trainings, facilitating workshops, providing advisory support, sharing lessons and examples from other markets, preparing case studies, and supporting companies’ internal mWomen champions to foster additional management buy-in. The Commercial Programme Manager will work to identify and meet the commercial needs of the programme’s mobile industry partners, working in close collaboration with other GSMA mWomen team members, including the Programme Manager. • Contribute to continuous knowledge sharing within the GSMA mWomen team. As the team member with chief responsibility for delivering the commercial impact of the program, the Commercial Programme Manager will share insights, expertise and lessons learned to build the entire team’s ability to serve the needs of mobile operators, development partners and other partners involved in expanding underserved women’s access and effective use of mobile technology. • Support team efforts to recruit industry partners to consider mWomen investments. Working closely with teammates, the Commercial Programme Manager will provide analytic support to help identify and make the case for action with potential industry partners. • Provide analytic and other support as needed. As part of the larger, multi-disciplinary team, the Commercial Programme Manager will be asked to lend his or her expertise to ad hoc analyses, case studies, briefings, proposals, events, et cetera. The Commercial Programme Manager will report to the GSMA mWomen Deputy Director. S/he will work closely with the GSMA mWomen team and colleagues within the GSMA Development Fund.
