Principal Geologist AngloGold Ashanti

AngloGold Ashanti Limited (AGA) is the world's third largest gold producer with 20 operations in 10 countries on four continents and a highly successful exploration program. AGA employs over 60,000 people globally. In Australia, AGA operates the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine in WA and is developing the Tropicana Gold Mine, also in WA, in which it has a 70% interest and is manager. Independence Group holds the remaining 30%. Tropicana, which represents the most significant Australian gold discovery for the last decade, is scheduled to begin production in the December quarter of 2013.

We are now seeking an experienced and committed Principal Geologist to join our Global Greenfields Exploration team in the Solomon Islands.

Reporting to the VP Exploration - Asia Pacific, this role is accountable for Assisting with optimisation of shareholder investment in exploration and business development activities to generate shareholder value by completing high quality geological interpretations at various scales and designing and implementing programs to test geological and Au-Cu mineralisation concepts. This role is located in the Solomon Islands.

The main tasks of the role include:

• Responsible for geological interpretations, technical direction and supervision of data quality at project and regional scale
• In conjunction with project staff, design and implement exploration programmes to test targets from early-through to late stage
• Completion of project reviews and property appraisals as required. Document findings accurately and succinctly and make recommendations for the Companies involvement.
• Remain abreast of internal and external research and technology developments in particular that funded by the Company critically assess conclusions of the research and make recommendations for applying the research in the exploration process.
• Develop geological, geochemical and mineralisation concepts.
• Make presentations to management and, where necessary, JV partners on programs and results.
• Preparation of reports and key exploration and governance metrics to inform management, exploration partners and key stakeholders.
• Assist the country Exploration Manager and Senior Geologists with the preparation of budget proposals and strategies for the region.
• Maintain an overview of the activities of competitor companies in Solomon Islands and elsewhere in the Asia Pacific region as required, including their exploration activities and results

The ideal candidate will possess:

• BSc Hons or Msc in Geology
• AIG or AUSIMM member or equivalent
• Current Drivers Licence
• Minimum of 10 years exploration experience
• Previous supervisory experience of management experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Senior First Aid Certificate

Experience in a wide variety of tectonic settings, with their diversity of gold and copper mineralisation styles will be highly regarded.
