Secretary General - European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party

The European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party (ELDR) is the Party of the third largest European political family, bringing together parties with common liberal, democratic and reform ideas from more than 37 European countries.
Its role is to strengthen the liberal democrat movement throughout Europe, to assist liberal democrat politicians to become better acquainted as well as to define a common political vision and communicate it effectively to European citizens.
Headquartered in Brussels, the ELDR Party supports the activities of the party and of its members at European level, organizes its statutory meetings, manages its external communication and facilitates the development of a European policy and a networking amongst liberal parties. To support its activities, the ELDR is seeking a m/f:
Secretary General
Mission:
The Secretary General reports to the President and the Bureau of the ELDR Party. The Secretary General is in charge of the daily management of a small team of 10 international professionals organized into three units (Political, Communication, Finance & Administration) each of them being headed by a Head of Unit.
The key responsibilities of the Secretary General are:
  • to elaborate and propose the political work program of the Party, in line with what has been defined by the Bureau, in particular in view of the preparation of the next European elections;
  • to represent the Party and ensure high-level contacts with member parties, partners and groups in supranational assemblies;
  • to supervise the preparation, implementation and evaluation of the political activities of the Party, as well as the organization of its events;
  • to monitor developments in EU regulation and the financial rules governing European parties, and to ensure that the Party is managed within the framework of the EU Regulation governing political parties and of Belgian law.
Pre-requisite qualifications:
Candidates will be University graduates with demonstrable political management experience, preferably with experience of working at international level.
Fluency in English (native level) and a high level of intercultural sensitivity are a must. Knowledge of other European languages would be an asset.
Candidates must have an understanding of and affinity with the policies of the ELDR Party and its national member parties, and should be members of an ELDR member party.
A good understanding of political processes, demonstrated experience in managing a multicultural team and financial and office administration know-how is required.
