Senior Manager: Geotechnical Engineering � U/ G Operations

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The Senior Manager – Geotechnical Manager Underground, will be required to:

In conjunction with site personnel, review geotechnical risk performance on global underground operations to ensure performance is in line with the corporate geotechnical risk guidelines. At the same time ensure that geotechnical engineers are given advice on best practice and act as a change agent throughout the mines to ensure that value is realised through geotechnically optimised mining designs.

Provide geotechnical services and advice for operating mine sites and projects where the regions lack suitably qualified personnel.

Assess opportunities for the application of Geotechnical Research and Development to enable AGA mines to become leading practice operators.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Qualifications:

Honours degree in mining engineering or applicable earth science with a Post Graduate Qualification in Geotechnical / Rock Engineering.

Experience:

  • 10 to 15 years’ experience in large underground mine geotechnical engineering (preferably massive mining)
  • Including at least 5 years practical operating experience

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Ensure that the operations follow through on action plans to mitigate geotechnical risk
  • Ensure the integrity and optimisation of geotechnical processes & systems for the underground mines
  • Advise on, an appropriate safety and service performance culture for the geotechnical team through personal leadership and assist mine management to develop a strong technical team
  • Identify opportunities for a major lift in mining operations performance through technology, engineering and work systems interventions and advise the operations on the implementation of best practice.

REPORTING TO:

Head: Geotechnical and Rock Engineering

REMUNERATION:

Salary will be in accordance with the AngloGold Ashanti Schedule of Salaries.
