AngloGold Ashanti Vacation Students Mining and Geotechnical Engineering

AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) is the world's third largest gold producer with 20 operations in 10 countries on four continents. AGA employs over 62,000 people globally. In Australia, AGA operates the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine and is developing the Tropicana Gold Mine in which it has a 70% interest and is manager. Independence Group NL holds the remaining 30%. The Sunrise Dam and Tropicana operations are both situated in WA.

Tropicana represents the most significant Australian gold discovery of the last decade. The new, large scale open pit gold mining operation will produce 3.45 million ounces over a 10 year mine life (approved project). Construction began in 2011 and first gold is anticipated in the December quarter of 2013.

We are now seeking a number of vacation students to join the Mining Department at the Tropicana Gold Mine. This role is a 3 month contract covering the summer university break.

Accountable to the Senior Engineer, this role provides support to the Mine Planning department to measure performance, analyse, and improve operations in accordance to planning principals.

The role will vary according to business requirements and may include use of mine design software, development of systems, reporting, projects and other engineering tasks. The role may lead to an applicable industrial project for 4^th year students as appropriate. The role offers a good combination of outdoor field work and technical knowledge based work. This role is an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth or Kalgoorlie.

The tasks of the role typically include but are not limited to:

• To support the Mine Planning team with projects, day to day planning, and quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) aspects of open pit operations. This includes: inspection and monitoring of geotechnical, drill, blast, load and haul, dumping and crushing operations.
• Data collection, photography for fragmentation analysis
• MMRS data entry, QA/QC, and investigation of data discrepancies
• Assist Mine Planning team with End of Month reporting for the Mining Department using MMRS and MineStar resources
• Monitor day works requests and claims, including record keeping and QA/QC
• Assist the Mine Planning team with application of specialist mining software
• Monitor and maintain mine planning resources and hardware
• Maintain inventory of consumables required for the roles tasks
• Maintain and monitor control charts for variation control
• Regular auditing of contractor QA/QC processes/performance

The ideal candidates will possess:

• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Excellent level of computer skills including; Microsoft Office Excel and Word
• C Class Driver's Licence
• Completed 1^st year studies in a earth sciences or engineering degree
