International Potato Center Junior Research Assistant

The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a Junior Research Assistant (NRS) to be part of a project aiming at the development of genomic resources and genetic stocks for sequencing the sweetpotato genomes using a combination of most advanced technologies of genomics, molecular biology and genetics, and cytology.

The position: The Junior Research Assistant position will be based at ABL / CIP in Lima, Peru and will report to the leader of the project based at the same location. His/her main function is to implement the research plan involving mainly molecular and cellular techniques as well as greenhouse experiments.

Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Review and stay abreast with literature on plant genome sequencing
  • Develop genetic materials: segregating populations and haploid tissue
  • Profile with SSR markers selected genotypes
  • Propagate plant material in vitro and in greenhouse
  • Prepare scientific reports and publications

Selection Criteria:

  • Master’s degree in Molecular Biology or related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience required in similar position.
  • Experience and strong skills in basic molecular biology.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team work skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and work in multicultural environment.

Conditions: This position is local and thus limited to Peruvian nationals and permanent residents. Employment contract will be for a one-year term with three months probation period with the possibility of renewal.
