The Arab Water Academy (AWA) based in Abu Dhabi seeks an outstanding water professional to be in charge of planning, organizing, supervising and controlling the direction of the AWA. Responsible for overall management and operation of the AWA, the Director advises the Board on appropriate action related to the operation of and strategic direction for the AWA.

Initiated by the Arab Water Council (AWC), the AWA is hosted since July 2008 by the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi (EAD) in partnership with the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA). The AWA is established as a regional center of excellence for executive water education and aims to provide state-of-the-art training and development programs to water policy-makers, executives, managers and academicians across the Arab region and beyond.

Leadership
Set and communicate AWA’s vision
Conduct strategic planning with key staff members and Board on AWA’s direction
Innovate strategically in programs, policies and courses and activities

Operational
Direct and supervise AWA staff
Plan, direct and coordinate AWA’s operational activities
Conduct staff recruitment
Ensure personnel policies and procedures established
Conduct performance planning and assessment of all other AWA staff
Ensure continuous staff development through training

Relationship Development and Management
Determine budget allocations
Supervise and direct fundraising activity
Continuously review fundraising strategy with Financial & Administration Officer and Marketing & Communications Officer
Authorize expenditures and payments and approve other forms of financial obligations

Accountability
Monitor and ensure financial well-being of the AWA through sound system of financial management
Provide reports on AWA’s performance to Board on regular basis
Work with key AWA staff to prepare the AWA’s annual reports and financial statements for submission to Board

Qualifications
MBA, MSc, PhD or its equivalent in a relevant discipline
Minimum 10 years of work experience including at least 5 years of managerial experience, preferably for non-profit organization or NGO
Ability to develop and lead an effective work team
Demonstrable understanding of technical, financial and accounting issues relevant to non-profit organizations
Ability to prepare and present information clearly and concisely, orally and in writing in Arabic and English
