We seek qualified candidates for the position of Communications Assistant (Administrative Associate I), Food and Nutrition Technical Assistance III Project (FANTA) in Washington, DC.
Position Description:
Food and Nutrition Technical Assistance III (FANTA) improves nutrition and food security policy, strategy and programming, and provides technical support to USAID and its partners, including host country governments, international organizations and NGO implementing partners. Focus areas for technical assistance include maternal and child health and nutrition, HIV and other infectious diseases, community-based nutrition programs and interventions, food security and livelihood strengthening, and emergency and reconstruction. FANTA develops and adapts approaches to support the design and quality implementation of field programs, while building on field experience to improve and expand the evidence base, methods, and global standards for nutrition and food security programming. The project, funded by USAID, is a five-year cooperative agreement.
FANTA’s Communications Unit is responsible for producing high-quality documents and other communications-related material to further the work of the project’s technical staff on the designing and implementing delivery science research and developing methods, tools, guidance, and technical reference materials in the areas of qualitative, formative, and operations research for use by FANTA staff and by FANTA stakeholders. The Communications Assistant will provide administrative support specifically to the Communications Unit and generally to the FANTA team.
The Communications Assistant (Administrative Associate I), Food and Nutrition Technical Assistance III Project (FANTA) will:
  • Maintain the publications room inventory.
  • Print, copy, and bind report upon request.
  • Maintain Communications Unit’s work tracking system.
  • Provide word process support.
  • Contact original authors and photographers to obtain permission to use original materials and art, as needed.
  • Maintain files, spreadsheets, and databases (paper and electronic).
  • Help arrange and coordinate interviews and meetings.
  • Produce presentation materials.
  • Assist with the preparations for meetings and workshops.
  • Take notes at meetings, as needed.
  • Respond to internal and external requests for information.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Communications Manager.
Minimal Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s preferred or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Requires several years of experience or a bachelor’s degree and no experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency with standard office equipment, including computers, printers, copiers, and scanners; ability to learn how to use trimming and binding equipment
  • Word processing experience in MS Word required
  • Experience with the logistics (procurement of meeting space, food, etc.) of large meetings a plus.
  • Experience working in international development a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and manage a variety of tasks with accuracy.
  • Ability to work in team consisting of people with varied technical backgrounds and levels of training.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communications skills; French, Spanish, or Portuguese language skills a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with professionals from around the world in a multicultural environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Docs.
  • Ability to initiate and implement activities with minimal oversight and supervision.
