Contracting Agent U.S. Embassy in Pretoria

The U.S. Embassy in Pretoria is seeking an individual for the position of Contracting Agent in the General Services Office (GSO).

Minimum Requirements

Items 1- 5 are ALL REQUIRED


1. Education: Bachelor's degree or three years diploma in supply chain management, business administration, logistics or related field is required.
2. Experience: Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in the field of acquisition and contracting is required.
3. Language: English level IV (fluent) reading/writing/speaking is required.
4. Knowledge:
- Must have extensive procurement knowledge in general and contracting knowledge in particular.
- Must have extensive commercial contacts and in-depth knowledge of the local market conditions.
5. Skills and Abilities:
- Must have contract negotiation and management skills.
- Ability to work calmly, tactfully, and effectively under pressure and demonstrate flexibility to manage more than one activity at a time is required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills are required.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite 2007 is required. (This will be tested)

Job Specification

Basic Function of Position:

As a member of the U.S. Embassy Procurement Team, the Contracting Agent provides U.S. Embassy Pretoria, it's ICASS (International Cooperative Administrative Support Services system) clients, and other supported missions and consulates, efficient, timely, expert contract development and management services. The incumbent is responsible for providing a full service range of contracting and procurement services and is the Mission's de facto expert and primarily focus on construction contracts, commercial item contracts, Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ), and Information Technology (IT) contracts.

Basic Salary: R197,638 – R276,695 per annum

Cash Benefits: R56,530 – R63,118 per annum
Non-cash benefits include medical, pension and others where applicable
