Summary

GLE delivers research, evaluation and consultancy services to public and third sector clients from our offices in London and Prague. Our team of experienced consultants provide specialised advice and support on a range of European policies and funding programmes to London-based organisations and facilitates the development of transnational, multi-agency partnerships.

We are looking for an assistant to deliver European services to London boroughs and provide policy support to transnational projects. You will need to have detailed knowledge and understanding of European policy and funding programmes of relevance to London, for example in the areas of regional policy, employment and skills or environment.

This position will offer a chance for the successful candidate to build their own skills, while playing an active role in a small team. If successful you will play an active role in GLE’s European work, engage with London local authorities and partners in other European cities and expand your contacts within EU institutions.

Key areas of activity will include

  • Monitoring European Commission websites and EU policy developments;
  • Following public debates in the European Commission and Parliament;
  • Drafting briefing notes on relevant items debated at EU level;
  • Conducting ad hoc research;
  • Assisting the team in public relations, communications, visibility, and promotional efforts (e.g. preparation of events, seminars and workshops);
  • Supporting management and updating of a website; and
  • Providing general administrative work and office tasks.

Essential

  • A first-class degree in a relevant field;
  • Knowledge of EU institutions and political processes;
  • Knowledge of and interest in European funding programmes;
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills;
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills;
  • Ability to work independently within a small team, and within tight deadlines;
  • Fluent English, written and spoken, including presentation skills;
  • Excellent IT skills.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in European institutions or agencies (e.g. internship at EU Commission);
  • Previous experience supporting public and third sector organisations to access European funding programmes;
  • A post-graduate degree in a relevant field such as European Affairs, International Relations, Sustainable Development, Political Science or similar.

Additional information

Salary: £17, 000 per annum.

The candidates selected will be required to complete a written task during the interview meeting.
