Health Scientist Location: United States

Futures Group is seeking a Health Scientist under Center for Policy and Advocacy. This position would provide content knowledge, technical assistance, consultation and support for the development and execution of project/program specific strategies. She/he will be required to exercise judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. The Health Scientist will also be required to determine methods and procedures on new assignments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides subject matter expertise/technical assistance to the program, technical staff and administrators as per project/program requirements.
  • Works with project staff and country counterparts on population, reproductive health and family planning, including conducting policy analysis, policy models, and research studies, among other project activities.
  • Orients work to strengthen capacity of country counterparts and project staff.
  • Provides analytical and evaluative techniques to identify, consider, and resolve issues or problems.
  • Uses various quantitative and qualitative techniques to perform contract tasks.
  • Assists with programmatic functions, e.g., development of work plans and budgets.
  • Ensures quality of services and compliance per project/program requirements.
  • May provide functional guidance to outside vendors to ensure deliverables are met within timelines and budgets.
  • Participates in and/or prepares necessary technical and program-related reports, including presentations and white papers.
  • Organizes as needed project/program trainings, conferences, workshops, and meetings.
  • Participates, and represents the organization as needed, in outside associations, conferences, and symposia.
  • Guides and supports research, data collection, policy formulation, training and capacity building efforts in support of contract/agreement activities and deliverables.
  • Contribute to new business development efforts, as required and appropriate.
  • Provide guidance to lower level staff members.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in public health, demography, health economics, policy formulation, or other field related to the program.
  • Strong research and policy analysis skills are required.
  • Strong interpersonal, writing, presentation, and organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to develop complex analysis tools/models into PowerPoint presentations and/or other multi-media formats for presentation and training purposes.
  • Experience working internationally.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, analytic, financial, and evaluative skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience in project management.
  • Attention to detail and ability to effectively and efficiently perform multiple tasks and balance competing priorities often within a required timeframe.
  • Professional and mature demeanor and conduct, especially during interactions with the client.
  • Ability to respond and adapt quickly to changing requirements and competing demands.
  • Ability to take initiative and/or respond independently to situations.
  • Ability to travel on a national and international basis up to 30% time.
  • Fluent written and spoken English is required. Preference will be given to candidates with working proficiency in additional languages, particularly French, Arabic, and Spanish.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand or sit, and move about the facility.
  • Ability to travel internationally. Economy class is standard.
