ICRISAT Scientists

Invites applications for the following Internationally Recruited Staff positions from innovative, dynamic and creative researchers

1. Research Program Director–Dryland Cereals (ICRISAT Headquarters) : Lead dryland cereals research and contributes to the planning, implementing, delivering, and reporting of research outputs and impacts. Establish, monitor and evaluate Research Program scientists’ research work plans and performance, and provide oversight of Research Program budget. Conduct research ( a minimum of 20% to a maximum of 40% time) in an area of relevance to Research Program, Consortium Research Program (CRP) and area of expertise.

2. Scientist/Senior Scientist-Genetic Resources (Asia): To work in collection, conservation and characterization of genetic resources, assess diversity of germplasm collections using morpho-agronomic and molecular markers data, developing representative subsets to identify trait-specific germplasm, and use of wild genepools through pre-breeding. Work with partners to enhance use of genetic resources, and develop project proposals for funding, and reports to donors.

3. Scientist-Biotechnology (Eastern & Southern Africa): Crop genome analysis using modern genomics technologies (next generation sequencing & functional genomics); develop diagnostic molecular markers for molecular breeding; high throughput fingerprinting or re-sequencing of germplasm collections, mapping polulations and breeding material for molecular breeding of drought tolerance, pest and disease resistance and other agronomic traits.

4. Scientist/ Senior Scientist – Legumes Breeding (Eastern & Southern Africa): Develop improved breeding lines and varieties of legumes crops (chickpea, pigeonpea and groundnut); plan and execute experiments in crop improvement; analyze, summarize, and interpret the data of the experiments; prepare reports and papers for publication in reputed journals; prepare project proposals for donor funding; and interact with partners and collaborate with experts from other disciplines and end users (farmers, traders, consumers, etc.) to add value to the crop and enhance livelihood opportunities for the poor in the semi-arid tropics.

5. Scientist/ Senior Scientist – Groundnut Breeding (West & Central Africa): Develop improved breeding lines and varieties of groundnut; plan and execute experiments in crop improvement; analyze, summarize, and interpret the data of the experiments; prepare reports and papers for publication in the reputed journals; prepare project proposals for donor funding; and interact with partners and collaborate with experts from other disciplines and end users (farmers, traders, consumers, etc.) to add value to the crop and enhance livelihood opportunities for the poor in the SAT.

6. Principal Scientist-Rural Sociology (West and Central Africa): To understand the household and community behavior and decision making using social analysis and demonstrate how technological interventions and policy decisions impact agriculture, livelihoods, poverty, natural resource and ecosystems in semi-arid tropics. Understand the key sociological constraints limiting productivity through limited adoption of technologies and innovations.

7. Scientist/Senior Scientist-Sorghum Breeding (West and Central Africa): Lead ICRISAT’s sorghum breeding research and seed sector development targeting Nigeria, and adjacent countries with needs for similar sorghum grain and plant types. Contribute to partnership development and resource mobilization for ICRISAT and partners involved in sorghum improvement and associated crop management focusing on Nigeria.
