Reports to: Principal Education Officer (Education Social Work)

Purpose of the Job

To provide technical support and guidance in the designing, development and implementation of Education Social Work materials, programmes and services for Education and Training Institutions and Communities.

Qualifications and Experience:

Either:

  • An Honours’ Degree in Education
  • A Certificate of Advanced Graduate studies in Education Social Work or Guidance and Counseling ORPost Graduate Diploma in Psychology from a recognized education and training institution.

OR

  • An Honours’ Degree in any Management/ Development Studies/Science discipline e.g. Social Sciences or Arts/Humanities or Social Work and Social Administration etc
  • A Post Graduate Qualification in Education Social Work or Psychology or Guidance or Counseling or their equivalent from a recognized education and training institution.

5 years working experience, 3 of which must have been at a level of officer or Middle management level in a reputable organization

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development of guidelines and standards for diagnosis and treatment of children/ adolescents with behavioural learning problems in the National Education System;
  • Participate in the designing, development and implementation of appropriate psychosocial support interventions and preventive/ corrective measures programmes in Education and Training Institutions, and Communities;
  • Participate in capacity building initiatives for Counsellors, Social Workers, Managers and staff of Education and Training Institutions, and other relevant stakeholders for enhanced provision of psychosocial support interventions in the education and learning environment;
  • Provide technical support for parental education and assist the learners and communities in problem solving and conflict resolution in a safe and health manner;
  • Participate in assessment of students’ needs at Local Government and National level to inform policy development and development of appropriate interventions;
  • Participate in the development of home visitation guidelines and monitor their implementation as well as community participation in education/ school activities in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders;
  • Provide technical support and guidance for the implementation of Psycho-social Support programmes, interventions and services in Education and Training Institutions, and Communities in collaboration with relevant departments, agencies, NGOs and other relevant stakeholders;
  • Maintains an up-to-date Data Bank on matters of psycho-social support services including organizations providing support and / or referral services.
  • Supervise and appraise Education officer social work.

Any other duties as may be assigned by the relevant authority.
