Visiting Scientist (Crop Modeling / Climate Change)

ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for the following Visiting Scientist position. These position are based at Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh.

ICRISAT is a non-profit, non-political organization that conducts agricultural research for development in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa with a wide array of partners throughout the world. Covering 6.5 million square kilometers of land in 55 countries, the semi-arid tropics is home to over 2 billion people, with 650 million of these the poorest of the poor. ICRISAT and its partners help empower those living in the semi-arid tropics, especially smallholder farmers, to overcome poverty, hunger, malnutrition and a degraded environment through more efficient and profitable agriculture. ICRISAT is headquartered in Greater Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India and belongs to the Consortium of Centers supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).

The Job: Candidates will be responsible for undertaking crop simulation and carbon simulation modeling to predict impact of climate change in the semi-arid tropics. Also to undertake research and conduct experiments for assessing the adoption strategies to cope with the impacts of climate variability/change in watersheds.

The Person: Fresh PhD. in Agronomy, Agroclimatology, Plant physiology or Soil Science with at least 2 years’ experience in crop modeling applications. Fluency in spoken and written English is essential. The candidate should have aptitude and skills to draft reports, research papers and formulate projects. The job involves working in inter-disciplinary team in multicultural and multinational environment and the ability to interact with partner organizations.

Tenure: Two years

The Reward: These are fixed tenure positions, but may be extended depending on requirement, funding availability and performance of the incumbent. The compensation will be an all-inclusive (base pay and allowances) consolidated lump sum amount. The compensation will not be a constraint for the right candidate.
