Our client, an international company in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector, is looking for a Head of Legal, Compliance Officer Belgium. They are one of the leading companies in Europe.
FUNCTION
The purpose of the role is to ensure adherence and implementation of good corporate governance and compliance and to deliver advice and support to all bodies and departments of the company regarding legal affairs.
1. Strategy/Business:
  •  Accountable for developing and executing the local legal strategy in line with the company strategy
  •  Accountable for provision of extensive legal advice to the company   in particular in the fields of corporate law, healthcare law and labour law.
  •  Assist in the coordination of the wider legal activity of the company in Belgium, such as real estate, business development and debt recovery.
  •  Develop a meaningful compliance management system in co-operation with Legal at company HQ.
  •  Support the Country Board with pragmatic risk-aware legal advice enabling the achievement of business objectives, good corporate governance and compliance.
  •  Liaise and communicate with all relevant departments and business units to ensure an effective understanding of group issues in respect to legal, corporate governance and compliance.
  •  Maintain close contact with Legal at company HQ, to ensure a co-ordinated and consistent approach to legal issues and corporate governance; participate in group-wide legal working groups regarding matters of transnational relevance.
  •  Accountable to monitor legislation and to inform about resulting requirements. This in particular regarding pharmaceutical and marketing law in respect to changes which could give new business opportunities
  •  Select, closely collaborate with and steer external lawyers.
2. Processes:
  •  Define and implement legal standards and procedures
  •  Create standard agreements and procedures to ensure most timely and effective advice
  •  Negotiate and draft commercial agreements as required to support business
  •  Manage litigation costs effectively, using alternative dispute resolution as feasible
  •  Set up and manage the legal spend and identify innovative ways to reduce the overall legal costs
  •  Monitor developments in legislation and industry practise affecting the country’s scope of operation and assist with communication and implementation of necessary changes
  •  Arrange training in areas such as commercial awareness and contract management to colleagues
  •  Ensure implementation of good corporate governance and compliance systems
  •  Proactively identify areas for improvements in service delivery within scope of function

PROFILE
  •  Experience in Legal Management individual with at least 5 years of experience in international corporate or legal organisations, preferably in a trading environment
  •  Knowledge of the healthcare market with insights into pharmaceutical wholesaling, retailing and services
  •  Perfect knowledge of English and French, effective business communication in dutch
  •  Qualified solicitor
  •  Excellent leadership and communication skills
  •  Advanced negotiation skills
  •  Excellent (virtual) people management skills, strong influence and opinion leader
  •  Ability to motivate and inspire at all levels - “team worker” with good motivation and coaching skills
  •  Open minded but solid standing; reliable and straight forward. Strategic as well as pragmatic with a can-do attitude
  •  Results-oriented, balancing priorities whilst working in a fast moving, high pressured environment
