Assistant in house Legal Counsel
MDY Legal is a multidisciplinary law firm with a focus on international development.
 
In addition to delivering legal advisoryservices to approximately 30 key clients, MDY Legal provides programme management services to two high profile international development programmes funded by international aid agencies in the infrastructure and health sectors (The Private Infrastructure and Development Group www.pidg.org and HANSHEP www.hanshep.org).
 
MDY Legal is currently looking to recruit an Assistant in house Legal Counsel, who will support the programme management and fiduciary functions of their programme management team.
 
Role Specification
 
The Assistant in house Legal Counsel will be responsible for dealing with programme contracting and compliance issues and for establishing effective communications across the project delivery, client and stakeholder teams. This includes overseeing technical and financial programme reporting, co-ordination with donors and third parties and other funding agencies.
 
Fiduciary duties include control of programme documentation, drafting and review of constitutional, governance and compliance documents; drafting and review of investment and operating policies and procedures; drafting and review of grant and other financing agreements; controlling the internal and external commercial aspects of projects across a range of contractual arrangements; real-time programme management and ad hoc problem solving.
 
Skills and Experience
 
Applicants should have significant programme or project management/secretariat experience in an international development programme or organisation that crosses a range of disciplines (including some experience of financial/ legal/ governance/ contract/ procurement issues) and market sectors.
 
In addition the ideal candidate will possess;
 
• Good client and stakeholder relationship building skills with an ability to communicate effectively with clients, project teams and business managers
• Effective people and resource management skills
• Excellent organisational skills and proven ability to effectively problem solve with a focus on achieving successful time management for both people and business
• Commercial awareness
• Knowledge of infrastructure financing would be advantageous
• Knowledge and experience of LEXCEL compliance would be desirable.
 
Educational Qualifications
 
Candidates for the role should hold a graduate or master’s degree in law, or equivalent experience.
 
PRINCE 2 or a recognised project management qualification is desirable.
