BBC News Interactive English Regions is looking for a journalist to join its North West team providing text news for online and digital text services for England.
News Interactive is responsible for all web and text based services provided by BBC News. The growth in the number of services provided by the department is a direct result of new technologies which are changing the way that people can receive news content. The role of BBC News Interactive is to respond to these changes and make BBC News content available to people wherever and whenever they want it.
This role involves using your skills to write sharp, accurate text and also to have a keen awareness of still images, video and audio for use on one of the world’s most heavily-used news websites. This will include covering stories for news-led local and national indexes online as well as developing original stories and features. You will also develop index management and newsdesk skills as part of a team which co-ordinates online news coverage across the region. The role also requires a good understanding of social media in both gathering stories and publicising our content.
This role offers an opportunity to work with colleagues across the North West and BBC News to provide the strongest news-led online output for local, national and international audiences.
The vacant position will be primarily based in Liverpool.
You will have significant experience in daily news journalism, proven writing ability, good IT skills and a clear vision of how to translate stories into lively multimedia material. The ability to integrate into a new team and draw effectively on the BBC’s wide range of resources is essential to this post.
Additionally, we are looking for individuals who have a good understanding of our audiences to ensure we accurately reflect all under-represented communities within the region.
