BBC Newsgathering's primary role is to provide the whole range of BBC News programmes with relevant broadcast news and current affairs material of the highest possible editorial, production and technical standards gathered throughout the UK and worldwide in the most efficient manner.  It has to ensure that in the face of increasing competition the BBC is the world leader in the gathering and provision of news material (information, pictures and sound) from Britain and around the World.  Newsgathering provides a high quality service to programmes in the UK and internationally.

Role

Base: BBC Park Western & Broadcasting House
 
As a Broadcast Support Technician you will have responsibility for working with Newsgathering's Planning and Event production teams to plan and lead the implementation of IT production and contribution technology supporting major events for World and Home Newsgathering.  Previous assignments have included the Olympic Games, the UK General Election and the US Presidential conventions and election.    As part of the Location Facilities team, you will be based within and managed by Newsgathering Location Facilities on a day to day basis.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have experience of broadcast operations, systems design and support, change control and configuration management as well as experience of providing solutions to sometimes complex system problems across a variety of hardware platforms.  You will also have in-depth experience of supporting Microsoft Windows Server and Office Products as well as BBC content production systems such as ENPS and Jportal.  An understanding of physical network hardware and architecture and networking protocols e.g. TCP/IP is also essential.  You will have excellent communication skills with experience of providing a high quality service in a demanding customer service environment. 
 
You will also have to be able to travel within the UK and overseas, sometimes at short notice.
