Cordis Editorial assistant


ESN is looking for a full-time editorial assistant to work on an important contract for CORDIS, the European Commission’s Community Research and Development Information Service. The successful candidate will report to the managing editor. The interview process will include a practical writing test.

Mission

Your task will be to support the managing editor in CORDIS editorial duties, from writing events and compiling weekly newsletters to providing assistance to CORDIS website visitors and users. The job also requires regular contacts with the client and coordination with other CORDIS departments.
Tasks will include:
  • Writing up events, updating pages and posting news online
  • Supporting users of the CORDIS newswire and news page
  • Compiling and contributing to the CORDIS weekly newsletter, working with the managing editor
  • Liaising with CORDIS analysts to ensure timely publication of news on the CORDIS website
  • Contributing to monthly activity reports and suggesting ways to improve the service

Profile

We are looking for a motivated, team-oriented, well-organised person who is able to establish a reliable working relationship with the client and other CORDIS collaborators.  Good editorial and project management skills are required.
Essential characteristics (please do not apply unless you match all of these):
  • Minimum one year of successful communication/editorial experience
  • Ability to synthesise and adapt complex information into well-written, journalistic articles
  • Strong sense of initiative
  • Ability to quickly understand and comply with existing procedures
  • A native English speaker (or equivalent) with excellent communication skills
  • Familiarity with web-based editorial services and project management tools
  • Interest in working in an international environment
  • Knowledge of other EU languages and scientific background would be an asset.
